Society Announces Closure of Pocklington Branch
Dec 31, 2008
The Society has announced its decision to close its Pocklington branch with effect from 27th March 2009. The Society’s Chief Executive, Phil Gray, advised that the decision had been taken following a long term review of the branch. ‘What we have seen over the last three – five years is that the number of customers using the branch has continued to reduce and that the way in which savers save has changed. The opening hours for the branch were reduced three years ago in an effort to try and make it viable but unfortunately over time it has become apparent that it is not cost effective and that these costs could be better utilised for the benefit of all the Society's customers in the medium and longer term’
Customers will still be able to use their accounts through the Society’s Beverley branch, either over the counter or through the post. Letters have been issued to all customers advising them of the decision and also to give them plenty of time to make alternative arrangements if necessary.
Mr Gray added, ‘The economic outlook is not good and it is imperative that all the Society’s resources are used sensibly and ultimately this decision is with the intention to increase the strength and resilience of the Society. The biggest regret is that there wasn’t enough customers using the branch to make it economic because the staff have always provided a great service on our behalf and it is sad that we cannot accommodate them into the Beverley office.’
